I’ve been over in my parents’ neighborhood a few times recently. About a week ago, I was driving down their street and saw one of their neighbors park this S63 AMG under a tree. As far as I know it hasn’t moved since. Today, my wife and I went for a walk in their neighbo rhood, and the S63 was in the same place, getting covered in helicopters and pollen.
As we walked past it, I pointed the S63 out to my wife, and she was disgusted not by someone disrespecting such a lovely vehicle by parking it under a tree, but at the mere fact that anyone would spend that much money on a car.
Meanwhile a regular-ass ML350 and Mustang GT get to park in the driveway free of tree crap, and who knows if the garage is even being used for car storage.

What an affront to the car Gods. Id throw all the (likely crap) in the garage out in front of my house to park my AMG inside safe and sound from tree crap alone not to mention birds and such. Hell my Taco and even my work car which I don't even pay for get better treatment than that.

There is a house about a block from me that has a GLE 63 AMG, and two Jeep Patriots. Really.
And the garage seems to be reserved for one of the Patriots.
There is also a G550 frequently in the driveway, but I don't think it's theirs.

There was another house in their neighborhood where this little old lady very slowly took a small bucket of water from the garage to the curb and poured it out while totally not seeing my wife and I standing at a safe distance waiting for her to finish so we could continue our walk. I glanced into her open garage and it had tile flooring and couches and office chairs in it. Dunno WTF people in my parents neighborhood are doing with their garages, especially when around here it’s like $700k minimum just to find a house with a 2-car garage. Well, at least it was before the ‘rona...

No HOA to ban street parking? Chaos!

In Chicago, you can find a lot of garages that have
been converted like that - into man caves or whatever. I have at least 2 relatives who have done something similar. But those are all small houses on tiny lots- and generally detached garages, where you don’t have a lot of options.
In a suburban setting like that, it’s pretty strange.

This whole neighborhood is 2500-3000 sq ft houses with 2-car attached garages. Many of the houses including my folks’ have been added on to over the years. But I guess some of them the residents are using the garages for nefarious purposes a.k.a. anything other than car storage.

It’s a neighborhood of houses that in other parts of the country would be solidly middle-class but thanks to location is very expensive. While all the houses have attached 2-car garages, many of the residents own more than 2 cars. Even if there were an HOA, I doubt they’d get enough votes to ban street parking.

Maybe parking it on the street hoping for an insurance payout? Or thinking parking it on the street shows it off? Or maybe it’s broken? Would be interesting to see wholesale value on a 2015, especially these days. Going to be some expensive miles. These are cars you lease new or buy at a few years old.
For the house talk, those 70s looking planbook style houses would probably be 1.5MM or so in my zipcode. Sadly, I doubt the ‘rona will change it much.

No idea, I just saw it get backed from the driveway to the street, where it has remained.

80s planbook with like 4-5 models and mirror images thereof, and 700s-800s . The developer is still around.

Probably leased on company dime and if not the resale value of the Mustang should overtake it in the long term (yikes!). The ML may just be a different driver that refuses to street park. I will never understand not using your garage to put your car in, especially anywhere it snows or gets cold. Then again, I am also strongly against suburban living.

Funny how architecture differs so much in the country, even when climates aren’t insanely different. There was a brief period maybe 1965-80 or so when postwar colonial revivals were popular here, but it quickly went to wooden contemporary designs.

America first. Gotta show that patriotism (hehe). I can only imagine they are much worse in automatic form and my friend's 5 speed is not exactly refined, smooth, or really all that great for drivers or passengers.

The next subdivision over from theirs is the contemporaries you describe. It was built in the 70s. Theirs was built early 80s. There are pockets of that contemporary style here but the colonial style never really stopped.

It never really came back here. If I see a “fake colonial” as I call it, I can usually guess the date within reasonable margin ot error . There are “transitional” styles in tonier areas, but the wooden contemporary was like a local tradition for a long time. Today, the faux craftsman has been the staple for 20 years, with mcmoderns being the new wave.
